C. Everett Koop Visits Eastman NH Next Week

Well, it’s been a few issues since I posted the Eastman Happenings but there are several things that take place in the next week or two that I think many people should be aware of.

What I think is the highlight, is the visit from C. Everett Koop. The former Surgeon General will speak about his years as General and answer questions from the audience. This is an outstanding opportunity to get into an interactive discussion with someone as high profile as he.

Another high profile event and certainly an emotional one will be the last concert put on by the Eastmanaires,  “A Jolliest Christmas Concert.” After over 20 years the group will disband. Hopefully this group or one like it will start again in the near future.

Other events include the Golf Members Holiday Party, Chocolate Workshop (YUM!!), exercise classes and even a build your own Gram Cracker House with your kids or grand kids.

Eastmans Womens Tennis Fall in Finals

It’s August 13th, 2011 a picture perfect day. A slight breeze, mid 70′s temperatures, beautiful blue skies with a few cotton ball clouds floating by.

The Quechee Club tennis courts were in full action as the finals for this years CTA Summer Tennis League were held there. The Eastman NH women’s team had a very successful year, making it to the finals. Neither the men’s A or B team did as well.

The women, had a very hard fought battle on court one going to a third set tie break. The number 1 Eastman team just could not pull out the victory after splitting the first two sets.  The Eastman court two team lost to a very strong Storrs Pond team that could have easily played number 1. The good news for the day was that the Eastman 3 team won in straight sets.

So, congratulations to Storrs Pond, winners of both the women’s A & B level and the Storrs mens A team all winning this years league play. Woodstock took the title for the men’s B level.

Country Houses Real Estate held it’s annual dinner at the Appleseed Restaurant in Bradford NH last night. This is part of the email that we received this am….

I want to thank those of you who came to our Relay For Life Benefit Dinner last evening.  It was

June 3-4th, please let us know.  We have luminaria bags available for $10 if you’d like to
decorate one (or your kids or grand-kids) for the track the night of the event.

As you can see this was a huge success but only a part of the fund raising that Country Houses does during the year. IF anyone would like to support our cause please contact me at jeffadie@gmail.com or Janet at newbury@countryhousesre.com

Chili Cook Off A Huge Success

This past weekend was the Chili Cook Off. What a great event to help raise money for David’s House!! The turnout seemed to be a really good one as the high winds made it a cold day for skiing and other outdoor activities.

Congratulations go out to the Blish Family for their outstanding effort and their Buffalo Chicken Chili winning creation. If you were lucky enough to get a taste it was really, really good.

David’s House Chili Cook Off 2/19/11

Today is the day!! If anyone is in the area between 12-2pm please stop by the Center At Eastman. The Draper Room will be filled with 15-20 entrants for the Chili Cook Off. It is a great event, it’s fun and we raise money for a great cause. If you sample every chili entry you won’t need to eat lunch because you will be completely full.

So come on out early or stay late and cross county ski. I hear the trails have been outstanding this year!

Things To Do In Eastman 9/25/2010

The summer weather continues and the fall colors are really starting to show up.

So what’s in the line up for things to do? Hiking is at it’s best this time of year. Not to cold and not to hot. The smell of autumn is in the air. How about a golf tournament? Tennis is always a great option.

Eastman Lake 09/04/2010

There are some interesting things happening in the Eastman Community this time of year. The biggest change is that there are actually leaves falling from trees! It still feels like summer with the high temperatures we’ve been having. Even after the hurricane that wasn’t, we have sunny skies and temps in the mid seventies.

The hillside around the lake and surrounding areas are showing faint signs of color other than green. I suspect that we could have a very bright foliage year with the dry summer that we have had. It could also go the other way and be a muted color year? I guess time will tell……

Some great events are happening today, like the Eastman Community yard sale. This is a big event every year when residents gather to swap and sell belongings that might not be needed. At least until next year when some things get bought back.

How about dinner down at South Cove Activity Center. It’s catered by Bistro Nouveau and should be a lot of fun. Dinner starts at 5pm so get there early, you might need tickets to get in.

Anyway enjoy this fine weekend…..
