Eastman End of Season Tennis Tournament

It’s the beginning of September and the year end Eastman tennis tournament is well under way. There are several categories and age groups to make it fun for everyone.

The all age group, men’s doubles and women’s doubles finals will be played on Saturday morning at 9am. The teams of C. Cecchetti/Lechance play the sister team of Geri and Nancy Jachim. At the same time Tombs/R. Cecchetti take on Adie/Ericson in the mens final. A casual breakfast will be served and the match is scheduled for 9am.

The mixed doubles (all age) finals were played last night in a slight rain. The team of Adie/Lechance defeated Tombs/C. Cecchetti. The first set was an exciting one for all neither team was at their best but Adie/Lechance pulled out the 6-4 win. In the second set, although score of 6-0 doesn’t tell the story, several games went to multiple deuces and could have easily gone to Tombs/C. Cecchetti. Coach Gary made a pre match prediction of a third set tie break and he was almost right.

In the men’s doubles, combined age of 125 years or more, the team of McKune/Johnson defeated R. Cecchetti/Slabin 6-4 6-3. Bruce Johnson is have a comeback year and played outstanding tennis. Having Glen McKune as a partner didn’t hurt either. Never the less Cecchetti/Slabin put up a valiant effort only to come up short in the the end.

Eastmans Womens Tennis Fall in Finals

It’s August 13th, 2011 a picture perfect day. A slight breeze, mid 70′s temperatures, beautiful blue skies with a few cotton ball clouds floating by.

The Quechee Club tennis courts were in full action as the finals for this years CTA Summer Tennis League were held there. The Eastman NH women’s team had a very successful year, making it to the finals. Neither the men’s A or B team did as well.

The women, had a very hard fought battle on court one going to a third set tie break. The number 1 Eastman team just could not pull out the victory after splitting the first two sets.  The Eastman court two team lost to a very strong Storrs Pond team that could have easily played number 1. The good news for the day was that the Eastman 3 team won in straight sets.

So, congratulations to Storrs Pond, winners of both the women’s A & B level and the Storrs mens A team all winning this years league play. Woodstock took the title for the men’s B level.

Eastman Playoff Tennis Update

With the men’s A team loosing in the first round of league playoff’s the men’s B team and women’s B team were left to carry on the winning ways for Eastman tennis!!

The men played a very tough match against River Valley Club on Tuesday 8/9 and lost a heart breaker 2-1. The team that played in the number one slot won 6-3 6-3 but it was all down hill after that. Over all both the mens team’s had solid years and Eastman tennis will improve because of the success.

Now the real story is the women’s team. After finishing in 4th place for the year, the women won a rather easy 3-0 match against RVC. Last night the women traveled to Norwich. With thundershowers all around us, playing on hard courts not clay, the women fought a victory winning on court one, in a third set tie break, dropping a thriller on court 2, in a third set tie break and winning straight sets on court two.

The women play in the finals at The Quechee Club Sat. 8/13/11

This event just seems to get better every year!!! The Eastman Community is filled with volunteers that make this event happen. People travel from long distances to participate and everyone has so much fun!!! The event has entries that are trying to win, people trying to set a personal best, and people that have never done anything like this before. There are teams competing, where you can have to or three competitors on one team. There is even a scaled down version for kids under 14.

Eastman’s Women’s Tennis Wins Championship

I don’t have all the details but the Eastman Woman’s tennis team won the Upper Valley Summer Tennis League Championship.

After a competitive summer schedule the women ended up finishing first in the standings. This gave them home court advantage through the quarter and semi-final matches. After not dropping a match (I actually think they didn’t drop a set!) in the first two playoff rounds Eastman headed to The Quechee Club to play in the finals.

Once again the women stepped up their play, winning all three matches and proudly bringing home the championship banner.

A special thank you goes out to Christine Cecchetti for being captain of the team. After several years she is passing the torch. A great way to go out Christine, with the title of Champion.

Eastman Women Tennis Players Reach Finals

The Eastman Woman’s Tennis team defeated Bethel Vermont  3-0 in the semi-final. The entire match wasn’t very close but Bethel did put up a good fight.

Winning on court one and captain of the team was Christine Cecchetti partnered with Pauline Shea. Winning in straight sets, they make a great team and big things are expected from them in the finals.

Playing in the second spot was Milly Dunfey and partner Geri Jachim. They also won in two sets, and were the first to finish. This team would make a great number one team for most of the other teams in the league.

Playing in the third spot was Amy Hoffman and Linda Tanner. Again, winning in straight sets, Amy showed her versatility by powering her team to the win. When Amy plays on Saturday, she will be partnered with Jay Leavitt and they make as strong a team if not slightly stronger then the team of Hoffman/Tanner
